Jane Morris in Oxford- The Ashmoleum Museum (and The Turf Tavern)

There is probably no record of a painter whose personality grew to be so submerged in the form and face of one woman."  (Harry Quilter)

After Elizabeth Siddal's death, Rossetti became  increasingly obsessed with Jane Morris, drawing and painting her constantly as their affair intensified.   A copy of  Rossetti's The Day Dream featuring  Jane adorns the wall of  Oxford's historic inn,   the Turf Tavern - a nod to their famous neighbour - as  Jane lived and grew up virtually next door in one of the tenement buildings in the narrow alleyway( St Helen's Passage ,  a blue commemorative plaque  now commemorates the site) .

The original  The Day Dream is among the Ashmoleum's Pre-Raphaelite collection  in  Oxford https://ashmolean.org/pre-raphaelites / https://ashmolean.org/pre-raphaelites-film
